this section outlines all you need to know about the equipment that will get us from one end to Africa to the other.

I have learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

The Truck

The truck is converted to accommodate comfortable seats for long journeys. It has tarpaulin sides, which allows ventilation when driving in the hot desert. This also provides great game viewing opportunities when we enter national parks and game reserves. It is self-sufficient with kitchen facilities, water, diesel, spare parts and tents. It is basic (not your first class bus ride) but functional.

We carry enough drinking water on the truck for the periods we intend to travel away from towns and cities. We generally find clean drinking water sources along the way. If you feel more comfortable treating this water with iodine or similar water treatment pills or capsules then we encourage this. Bring your own water bottle to refill.

Camping

Basic tents will be provided. It is recommended to bring a good mosquito net and a mattress (these can also be purchased in Morocco or along the route but they may be cheaper and a little inferior) as it is preferable to sleep mostly under the stars. (Especially in North Africa and dry regions)

All cooking equipment, utensils, gas burners, bottles and a BBQ plate will be provided. Cooking is done on a roster system to keep everything fair… if you don't know how to cook…. (You will by the end of your trip)
