Leaving
lovely Cape Town we start heading up the garden route. Enjoying the
well tourist travelled wine regions and stunning coastlines we have
the opportunity to surf (or try to surf) and a whole range of adventure
activities, we may even get to see some whales. As we enter the Transkai
we return to a more "African" feel where the people live
in little round huts and we see some of the most stunning scenery
of South Africa. After passing the Drakensburg mountains we make our
way past Johannesburg the huge industrial capital of South Africa.
Kruger National park at roughly the size of wales - is the biggest
game reserve in South Africa. It is now part of the Great Limpopo
Transfrontier Park, a peace park that links Kruger National Park with
the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe, and with the Limpopo National
Park in Mozambique. (We may be able to offer an optional extra into
the Kruger Park as some limitations can be imposed on foreign companies
operating in South Africa.)

We enter
Mozambique another tragic story of colonialism and civil war. The
civil war ended in Mozambique in 1986 and they are relishing the
newfound peace. We pass the capital Maputo, a Portuguese colony
that is still evident in its crumbling architecture. Travelling
north we pass untouched and beautiful beaches of Xai Xai, Tofu and
Barra.
Mozambique is also home to the Ilha de Mocambique (island of Mozambique)
Part of which has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site. It
is a small coral island rich in Arab and Portuguese history and
culture.

Once
the breadbasket of southern Africa, Zimbabwe is one of the friendliest
places on earth. If political conditions are stable we may visit the
awe inspiring world famous Victoria Falls, Bulawayo, the Antelope
Park (to walk with lions) and perhaps Lake Kariba.
At Victoria Falls there is a myriad of action and adventure activities
to suit all tastes. You can raft the mighty Zambesi, jump from the
bungy or gorge swing and much more

The Zambian town of Livingstone at Victoria Falls we pass the capital
Lusaka on out way toward Malawi.
Zambia is a landlocked country sharing its borders with eight other
countries it has an amazing amount of wealth in the form of copper
in the north western "copperbelt" It was rumored that the
copper was so pure in places it needed no processing straight out
of the ground.

This
tiny country is described by its people as "the warm heart
of Africa" and travelling through, you find the people are
all too happy to stop and chat with you. We will visit Lilongwe
and several spots on Lake Malawi including Kande Beach. Lake Malawi
is the largest fresh water lake in the world, and you would think
you were at the ocean
until you dive into the warm fresh
water. *If coming from the south we will visit Blantyre and the
Zomba plateau. Malawi is also famous for its intricate wooden carvings
that are quite simply amazing.

Finally
we cross into Kenya, Kenya is the archetypical home of wildlife,
safaris and sunset Gin and tonics. There are great opportunities
to see wildlife up close in Nakuru National Park, Lake Naivasha
and Hells Gate National Park. The "Big Five" are indigenous
to these national parks and they possible provide the best opportunity
to view game in East Africa. Kenya is the home of the Maasai people,
who still live very close to there original way of life from hundreds
of years ago.
